The Moment of Conception
I was giving Jesse a bath and was singing a great song in my head. I was wondering what CD the song was on, and it occurred to me it wasn't on any CD - it was in my head!
I whisked Jesse out of the tub and wrapped him in a towel and immediately started recording the chorus - without any instruments or a click track - so that I wouldn't forget it by the time Jesse went to bed.
What YOU hear is what I heard in my head 5 minutes after I heard it! It's so cool to hear everything - the background vocals, the piano - everything!
This is also the first time Jesse ever recorded anything - LOL! I can't wait to throw THIS in his face :)
My plan is to have a special version of the finished song that includes Jesse's "vocals", the way it is in this video.
Piano Version the Day After I Wrote It
I originally wrote this on piano and recorded it on my 4-Track recorder. There's no guitars added yet - and I didn't add the bridge yet either. But this is a good example of what the song sounded like the day I wrote it.
I deleted the original 2nd verse, to be replaced with the bridge, but left in an extra measure by accident. So it sounds a bit odd right before I get to the chorus.
Piano and Acoustic Guitar
This version I added the acoustic guitar to the piano track to hear what it will sound like.
This version doesn't include the bridge - but the final version will.
There are 3 guitars on the final version: strumming, finger picking and lead guitars.
Just Acoustic Guitar
Before you record a song for posterity, you go thru the "what-if" phase.
I wanted to hear how the song would sound as a guitar song, but opted to keep it as a piano song.
On the piano version of the song, I modulate (change keys) on the last verse. I'll still do that when I record it, but I didn't do it here so as not to upset my neighbors with loud singing :)
