READY... SET... GONE!
Words and Music By Billy Kay
Two in the morning
In bed all alone
He's out with the boys
Bein' bad to the bone
She's seen it before
He ain't coming home
She's gotta' get ready to go
Too much sorrow
Too much pain
Too much lightning
And not enough rain
Too much trouble
And she's always to blame
She's gotta' get ready to go
Too much heartache
Not enough love
She gave all she had
But it wasn't enough
She's gotta' be strong
She's gotta' be tough
She's gotta' get ready to go
She's ready
Settin' out on her own
She's ready
Where she won't feel alone
She's ready
Her heart tells her not to hang on
She's ready... she's set... she's gone
Left unfulfilled
after too many years
Left drained and dry
after too many tears
She's gotta' get out
Her direction is clear
She's gotta' get ready to go
She's ready
Settin' out on her own
She's ready
Where she won't feel alone
She's ready
Her heart tells her not to hang on
She's ready... she's set... she's gone
She's ready
She won't take it no more
She's ready
Got one foot out the door
She's ready
She's got nothing else left to give
She's ready
Settin' out on her own
She's ready
Where she won't feel alone
She's ready
Her heart tells her not to hang on
She's ready... she's set... she's gone

ABOUT READY... SET... GONE!
A woman I know showed up at work wearing sunglasses. I just assumed she stayed out too late the night before. The next day - sunglasses again. Long story short, she was hiding a black eye.
We see these stories on the news and read about them in the papers all the time, but I had never actually known anyone that was a victim of abuse.
She confided in me the details and my first thought was "Leave him! Guys don't hit girls! Case closed!"
But for better or worse, she was in love... and she believed in the "for better or worse" clause. So she was determined to stick it out.
I played the first draft of the song for other women, and they ALL had similar stories! Some just had a baby - where could they go? Some slept in their cars! Some were living under threat.
Ready...Set... Gone! is about how hard it is to make the decision to leave. It must be the hardest decision a woman has to make! Each woman who makes that call to Shade Tree shows more courage then I could ever muster.
